Upsala Allmänna Schacksällskap (UASS)
The club was founded by a group of chess interested folks already in 1905 which means we are the oldest club in Uppsala, and now has around 80 members of all ages.
We regularily play on Tuesdays from 18:45 to 22:30 at Katarinaskolan, Nedre Slottsgatan 8, from the end of August to the end of May, and also have activities on certain weekends.
Who can participate?
Everyone can join. At UASS club evenings, about 30 players usually take part. Two have been Swedish Champions, some are complete beginners – and everyone else is somewhere in between. So anyone can find suitable opponents. Activities are organized so that the games will be as even and exciting as possible.
What does it cost?
Membership in UASS costs 850 SEK per year. Passive members and those registered with another club pay half, i.e., 425 SEK per year. A special discounted membership is offered to all younger players – up to and including the year you turn 25, the cost is only 350 SEK per year. Membership fees are paid to Plusgiro 337839-5 (Upsala Allmänna Schacksällskap).

Visiting UASS to try out our activities and see if you enjoy it costs nothing. Some training sessions are offered by the club under the leadership of Erik Essinger. See the website’s updated news for information about when it takes place.

How do I become active?
Get in touch with us by visiting UASS on one of our Tuesday club evenings. We regularly hold beginner tournaments, and when there are enough players, we start a new one. For new interested adults, we organize competitions and beginner training, usually on Tuesdays. You can reach the chairman, Leif Karlsson, at leif.t.karlsson@live.se.
